Our electric bill for a total electric property runs about 490/month with Duke Energy Progress. Don't know what you now pay, for water, but the water bills here can be a big expense. Our bill for an 890 SF 1BR apt is over $60/month because the city crams it with "junk" fees.

Now, this month's bill will be through the roof with the cold temps, but we still pay the EPP and it balances out at the end of the year. Duke just got a raise, so we'll up our EPP to $110. Insulation is a good investment if you plan to stay in a house for a long period.

CS reps often have no clue, so can't rely on such info. Regardless, electric is an essential utility that's highly regulated - there should be a deposit option available. And the amount they can require is likely limited to some extent. Around one hundred to a few hundred dollars is typical.

The Duke rep obviously said that for the area I am living Duke is providing utility. Plan on calling Energy United and Union Power. Any info will be helpful, I still have time to pay the security-deposit but I think it sounds like they just are greedy to take this $150 and just keep it in their pockets for a year. Thanks!

I now pay 10 cents per kilo watt hour!! Check your Duke bill. Exclude any taxes or fees and the fixed payment for your outdoor light if you have one. Then divide the amount by the number of kilowatthours you consumed and I'm pretty sure you are paying a lot less. Strangely I find no one who has a complaint about what they pay for power in Rock Hill

Mine read "Fixed Monthly Leaf 50C Charge" Its only .5 percent of the bill but I called customer service and I was told it was a new charge for Solar Energy Research that was allowed by government. While the charge is minimal they could have put an insert in the bill or given their customers a heads up on the bill to the new charge.
