Badgeman. Jun 4, 2006. #5. Well my personal view is that the RFA is better (though not necessarily easier). The atmosphere on board is much more relaxed than a warship - first names mainly. The only people not addressed as such by us lowly YOs are the Captain (sir), the Chief Engineer (Chief), the XO (ChOff), and the MEO (Second).

There isn't a lot of fitness involved with the RFA, we still have to hump damage control gear and do the same firefighting the RN do, (and there is less olf us per ship) so it helps if you are fairly fit. Jul 3, 2017. #4. There are some still serving in the RFA with gong collections that make Prince Philip jealous. Quite a few SAM holders still serving and have some active years left in them. Depending on the context of the award, some RFA OBEs are Miltary Division, some Civil.
