Adobe Reader DC also has an .msp and a .ini file that control some things. Basically, setup.exe calls AcroRead.msi, and then the .msp file updates it to the most current version. The .ini file is what calls out which .msi and .msp setup.exe uses.

09/26/2023 Just thought I would add something from my clients recent experience: Right clicking on a PDF file and slecting Print option had stopped working on Windows 10 PCs. Adobe Acrobat Reader was set as the default application for pdfs. This was a new version of Acrobat Reader ver 23.6.20320.0.
The question was where to get a copy of an older version of the software. Using the latest version of software would be fine if new versions actually improved the software, but too often these days they are a step backwards. The updates to Adobe Reader and to the Lightroom mobile app last year are cases in point.

Our Users have Issues with the Acrobat Reader DC after updating it to Version 22.001.20169. (Latest Update) When they Open a PDF File with Acrobat DC it works fine for a couple seconds and afterwards it continuesly starts to freeze and the Window is in a "not responding" state.
A temp fix that we have shared with our users is to open appwiz.cpl, select Adobe Reader, select "Change" and then run the repair option. This does not require Admin permissions. Please noe this is only a temp fix that will need to be repeated when the issues resurfaces after a device restart.
