Make a folder named "PS3" in the root of the USB device. Under the "PS3" folder, make a folder named "UPDATE". Place the PUP file under "UPDATE" and name it "PS3UPDAT.PUP". EVERYTHING MUST BE CAPITALIZED! Plug the USB device into the right-hand USB slot (the one closest to the disc drive).

You have to place it on your USB key in a /PS3/UPDATE folder. Then, go in Settings | System Update and choose Update via storage media. The file should then be detected and the system updated. You can find this information on Sony support site here. Share.
