Kuching High School was founded in 1916 by Kuching Teochew Association ( 古晉潮州公會 ), an association for the Teochew people in Kuching, as Min Teck Junior Middle School ( 民德初級中學) as a self-founded Chinese school. It was initially located at Jalan Batu. From 1941 to 1946 the school was closed due to the Japanese Occupation.
