Just got a nice 09 DR 650 that has been tuned by new pro pipe, K and N air cleaner and the usual carb re-done w/ kit/ reeds etc. Not exactly sure but I think it was all the usual recommended things done to make them run better, I know it sure runs great and almost scary fast.

   First, they will protect your feet and ankle if a crash happens. Second, they are comfortable, and you'll not notice you wear them all day. IMHO, the best ones are from Alpinestars as there's a different price range and you can fit with any budget, but other good options are also available on the market.

   I spent some time on a DR200 with street only tires recently and managed to scrape a toe in a turn. I even though about converting a DR650 into a motard but that will kinda kill the dirt fun for the most part. The new KLR (08+) is definately more street oriented than the old one and a good 50-60lbs heavier than the DR.
