Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool. Click on the Scan button. After the scan has finished click on the Clean button. Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts. Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
I'm using Avast Pro Anti-virus 2015.10.0.2208, and Windows firewall. I verified that the firewall is set to allow the Canon IJ network utility to pass through. Canon support says (here goes the finger-pointing) that the anti-virus must be blocking the ports the scanner uses.
Hi! I generally feel secure with Avast Free anti-virus, but now I have experienced downloading a zip-file (with Firefox 15 and 16 on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit) where the Firefox download-window indicates that the file is being virus-scanned and found clean, and I can unpack the zip-file without any messages.

Paid versions of avast may well run the Smart Scam, but many of the modules in the smart scan are for paid version of the type of scan, e.g. CleanUP, Ransomware, if you hadn't paid for these modules, a free version ...
Right-click on icon and select Run as Administrator to start the tool. (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File). Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally.
