Time to do some math. Human visual field of view is about 120 degrees. Andromeda's diameter is 220,000 light years (twice the size of the Milky Way). Let x be your distance to the galaxy's center. Then, the angular size of Andromeda in degrees is: (220,000/x)*180/Pi. Setting that to 120° and solving gives a distance of 105,000 light years.

The actual galaxy, if you brightened it, would be the size shown in the photo. The Andromeda Galaxy's dimensions in the sky are 190 arcminutes x 60 arcminutes. This works out to ~3 degrees x 1 degree. The Moon, for reference, is about 1/2 a degree wide. So Andromeda is ~6 times wider in the sky than the Moon.
