The Texas labor market reached historic highs in 2023, breaking records in employment growth and civilian labor force. In December, the state’s seasonally adjusted job count reached 14,103,300 jobs, an increase of 19,100 over the month—marking 27 consecutive months of new series employment highs.
Annually, the state added 540,700 positions, as the job count reached 21 consecutive series high employment levels. Positive annual growth was reflected in all 11 major industries as the job count increased for at least 21 consecutive months. Texas added 306,000 jobs from April 2023 to April 2024. Texas’ annual nonfarm growth rate currently sits at 2.2 percent, outpacing the U.S. growth rate by 0.4 percentage points. In April, Texas’ seasonally adjusted civilian labor force grew by 37,000 people to reach a new high of 15,226,800.
