The VIN decoder here only works for newer models. I'd love to run the VIN to get the exact engine type numbers etc, so I can order the exact parts.
Unfortunately, the VIN decoder sites I have access to do not show the paint code without charging a fee. However, if the seller will give you the code, a Mercedes dealer could look it up. Attachments

Here's my situation: I want to (respectfully) ask a seller to provide evidence that the vehicle has those options, precisely because I trust the VIN decoder more than the vehicle description offered by the seller. Rather than say, "Prove it", I want to suggest that he take a photo of something (maybe just a display).
Hi , I have just run a vin decoder on my MB 1998 SL500, the info is wrong I think, it says SL500 Japan. I am in UK. The engine number says 113961 mine is 113963? The whole vin number for my car is WDB1290682F172906, I am trying to get info like wood interior colour, paint colour and correct engine/body to order parts as having trouble.
On the VIN plate you'll have 3 digit and/or 3digit + 1 letter codes that tell you about your build, options chosen and a bit more. Simple search of this forum will find you multiple links toward option codes "decoder". You may also look trough EGv107 sticky at the top of first page and get there a bit quicker.
