March 16, 2023 10:47 PM. It's not a bug. The IRS changed the list of principal business codes for 2022 tax returns. Codes 454110 and 999999 have been eliminated. TurboTax is using the IRS list for 2022. The updated IRS chart says that an online seller should use the code for retailers of the primary type of product that you sell.

My schedule C is asking for a principal business code. I didn't do a direct sales business last year so I don't know what to put here. You can find the codes at the link below.

You mentioned above that it is affecting other areas of your return. Can you provide a little more information on the other areas that are being affected as that may help. And is this a new business Schedule C or did your business file a Schedule C in previous years (the Schedule C was transferred in from your 2019 return)?
And if you don't see anything that matches, just put in 999999, which is miscellaneous. It's not something the IRS needs nor will it have an affect on your return.
