Posted December 16, 2023. Microsoft controllers are, naturally, natively supported by Windows. PS controllers get support from Steam, and PS5 controller support was added at one point. You might want to check in Steam to see if you have some sort of override on your Steam Skyrim setup.
Ive always played pc games with a 360 controller emulator, and for Oblivion, after a few weeks failing to map a good one, found an excellent Xpadder config. The only hitch is its only published on the closed forum site, so you wouldnt find it with google.
The keys I've mapped to the controller in JoyToKey are pretty standard, i use the directional keys for the joystick movement (which also allows me to navigate menus and interfaces), and have the right joystick mapped to cursor movements (and acceleration is also featured in my profile too, which is really nice).

Yeah Steam has partial controller support for the game for both DS4 and X360 controllers. I have set it up and the game responds to my controller inputs but for some reason the game sensitivity doesn't feel anything like the console versions of FO3. I've been playing the X360 version of FO3 since 2008 and I also play tons of console New Vegas.
The PS3 controller is hooked up to the computer through the programs MotioninJoy, which has the drivers, and ControlMK, which maps the controls as PC controls. This work as sort of an external keyboard and mouse, and the joysticks and buttons are mapped especially for whatever game I play. It's been working flawlessly.
Here's something many people do not seem to know for some strange reason: Oblivion has controller support, it's just not compatible with an Xbox360 controller. Here's how you fix that: Download xpader or some equivalent, then map the right stick as the mouse and the triggers as the mouse buttons. Morrowind is the exact same way.

This screenshot came from after I fixed the problem. Just to make sure it gets done right, right click on Xbox 360 Controllers for Windows and select properties. Go to the driver tab and select uninstall. Now, this next step is VERY important and VERY simple, and I feel dumb once again for not being observant.
Posted February 8, 2021. I had a problem where my GOG version of Fallout NV stopped recognizing my Xbox controller after I switched to mouse and keyboard, as in, there wasn't even an option in the setting to turn a controller on/off when i tried to change it back an hour later.
