yes i have tried them they do work very well the motorized ones work especially well cause you can set them on a timer. and there easy to setup. I just installed mine and am absolutely blown away. I got the motorized version and it is indeed 100% blackout. Installation was very easy and I couldn’t be any happier.

I spray painted the outside of my window, have blinds, and used black out cutout plastic (from amazon) cut out to fit the inside of the window.
I purchased the Allen Roth cellular cordless blackout from Lowe’s. They operate flawlessly and so easily. They are twice the price of select blinds. I bought select blinds roller style and hate them. It is pitch black and good quality overall (heavy, sturdy material). Depending on your window dimensions, you'll most likely need 2 curtain panels per window.
I use them because he sleeps in the brightest room in the house - I think he slept ok when he was in our room which was a naturally darker room with no blackout curtains.
