While it appears that you can keep it oriented North for map viewing, it does not allow for that when you are in turn by turn directions. I just tested Google Maps, and it has a setting while in directions to keep North up. You can use Google Maps in CarPlay. my Apple Maps is using 15gb of documents and data. When I delete the app the entire 15gb get reassigned to the “other” category. When I reinstall the app it reassigns the 15gb back to Apple Maps “documents and data”. I was so frustrated that I did a factory reset a few days ago, which worked.
Check Apple ID: Ensure that you are signed in with the correct Apple ID on your iPhone…..On my settings the toggle button was set to on. So, what I did was >toggled the Maps off >then back on waited a minute then >launched the Apple Maps app and all My Guides reappeared. Hope this helps everyone out with this issue.
So, to sum up, in order to stop the Maps app from zooming out to show all the route options, pick a route, select the green GO button, then cancel turn-by-turn nav by tapping on the first direction (in black, at the top of the screen). Interesting. I’ll have to try pressing the GO button and then the turn by turn directions and see does it work.
Apple Maps uses the system wide settings for Dark Mode. There is not an independent option for the Maps app. You can swap back to Light under Settings > Display & Brightness if you prefer.
