Second thing to know is to keep your rigs simple and cheep, because your gonna lose several.

After you go and watch, figure some places and tactics you wanna try keep in mind that when bottom fishing for reds, croaker, etc..at TCD tides are crucial not only for catching fish, but to keep from losing tackle. AS SOON as the tides slows and begins to go slack reel in and recast.

For alternatives, consider the Galveston Yacht Basin, Bayland Park in Baytown, or the Eagle Point Marina in San Leon. All offer good access to Galveston Bay.

We fish at night with our lights during the summer. Lots of trout and reds to be had down there. You will still find snags on the bottom so bring extra.

I've also used the one about halfway on the east side of the Dike (the one withat 2 ramps) with no issues as far as obstructions.

Also, at the end of the dike, there are some leftover piles from what was once a fishing pier. Fish of numerous species still hang around those pilings - black and red drum & specks.
