    I lived on STJ for 5 years. I did not spend anytime alone on STT at night but then again I would never do that in a city in the states. Jamaica at night was truly scary and I would not want to be alone at night in some small Mexican towns even if I was carrying. In my opinion, your comment is overkill. The VI's are as safe as using common sense.

    The trip from Colon to STX is dead into the wind - against the current and would likely require you to either go South along the South American coast or North as high as Jamaica. One reasonable alternative since the vessel is only 31' is truck it to Fla. and sail through the Bahamas and down - much easier on the boat and You.

    When we stayed in Jamaica we were told to no go out after dark outside of the resort. I can guarantee that no one has ever told anyone that on STJ. As a former resident, I would get out of work at 2am and walk home, as a single woman.

    Posts: 1. Yes! Though I realize the naysayers will tell you tanning beds are harmful, I always tan before going to the Caribbean. I feel that a full blown sunburn can be more damaging then the tanning itself. I usually tan for about a month to make sure I have a good base tan and this usually helps prevent a bad sunburn.
