In November 2007, Davidson High School became an International Baccalaureate World School. The school is one of two state funded, international baccalaureate high schools in the Mobile County Public School System. [5] Davidson High School is a founding member of IBSA (IB Schools of Alabama).
The school is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, providing education from Pre-KG to Grade 12. The school was established in September 1960 in Avondale, in the eastern section of Birmingham. It is named for Dr. Carol William Hayes, the city's former "Director of Negro Schools". The school added a twelfth grade in 1961, and the first seniors graduated in May 1962. Hayes remained an all-black high school until it was desegregated in 1970.
The Decatur City School District was the first in North Alabama to offer the International Baccalaureate Programme. The system contains two IB Diploma Programme schools in the high schools, and two IB Primary Years Programme schools in the two magnet schools and three IB Middle Years Programme schools in the three middle schools.
