    I started with Streamlabs and switched to OBS much later. Streamlabs is a little easier when you’re starting out (especially if you spend money on the premium version), but OBS can do basically all the same things. I still use Slobs for alerts, but that’s free and I haven’t found any alternatives yet.

    Particularly in display capture. Right-click the source in the Sources list, Transform, Edit Transform. Or just click on the source in the list and hit CTRL-E.     Under Sources, right click on the Video Capture Device you have created. Click on Properties. Navigate to the lower third of the page and click on Video Format drop down list box, Deselect H.264 or Any and select MJPEG. Instead of about one second plus of lag, you should find it useable and almost in real time.

    Streamlabs alerts default in obs. For some reason when I customize my alerts in streamlabs (desktop) such as the audio and test the follow on streamlabs, the audio plays fine onto my obs.     Two monitors really should be a basic consideration for content creation. If you absolutely do not have space for a second monitor, consider keeping chat open on your phone or tablet instead.
