Right Click on "Adobe PDF Converter" and Delete the same (repeat the same for all versions) Goto "Printers" > Remove "Adobe PDF" printer if present > Close the window; Re-Start the system; Add Adobe PDF Printer by following the steps mentioned in above comment. When security settings (e.g. password, certificate) or restrictions are added to a PDF document, the document becomes encrypted. Unlike the desktop version of Adobe Reader, the mobile Adobe Acrobat Reader apps (for iOS, Android, Windows Phone) have the known limitation where changes cannot be saved to encrypted PDF documents.
If you are using a Windows system, you can also use the Windows native printer "Microsoft Print to PDF," and you will end up with a PDF in the correct font. Just be aware that Acrobat still won't have a matching font available on the resulting PDF to edit the text, but you can at least open it in Acrobat.
For approximately the past two months, Acrobat DC reports "not responding" for about 20 to 30 seconds when I open it. This happens again when I open any PDF document (even one with just a single page). It happens again when I select any of the tools (Edit, Combine, Organize, etc). After years of having this problem, Adobe has not offered any fix (at least as of the date of this writing). I think I have the solution. I know there are many programs that will convert a PDF to a Word or WordPerfect document. By doing that, I can avoid using Adobe Acrobat and paying its subscription fee altogether.

No thanks to the Adobe experts, but thanks to users who spend time trying to fix Adobe's mess, I found the solution. Deleting the settings in the registry made my Acrobat Reader respond normally again. I changed Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\DC to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\DC1
