2. Will Ivy League athletic recruiting standards drop significantly...

    talk.collegeconfidential.com/t/will-ivy-league-athletic-recruiting-standards...

Remember the Olympics used to be pure. Our best college athletes made up our sport teams. Then the world went pro. College has too and a select few have decided to move to places where they can likely grow more skill wise and financially. And there’s nothing wrong with doing it. But they will now have obligations beyond being a student athlete.

Athletic Recruits. kjbest76 September 23, 2024, 10:49pm 1. child 2026 (recruit) is being woo’d by a major Ivy for a niche, non-revenue sport. based on rankings, recruit is probably #1 pick for them; no worse than #2. school has a healthy athletic budget (one of largest among Ivy); our family has “connection” to the school; they are not ...

Our S16 (international student) is preparing the admission process to colleges (fall 2024). He is studying the STEM branch in a very demanding HS (11th grade) and using some GPA conversion calculator gives him a 2.8. He combines his studies with competitive golf at a medium-high level in our country. I wanted to ask you if the addition of STEM and golf can give him access to engineering majors ...

Division III institutions are permitted to use a standard, NCAA provided, non-binding celebratory signing form. (Bylaw 13.9.1.1). A prospective student-athlete is permitted to sign the celebratory signing form at any point, including high school signing events, after the prospective student-athlete has been accepted to the institution.

  6. Pre reads for athletes - College Confidential Forums

    talk.collegeconfidential.com/t/pre-reads-for-athletes/1971027

The decision to admit is made solely by the admissions department. Pre-reads, in my experience, typically occur during the recruiting process (junior into senior year). In my experience a coach does a pre-read then the coach works with Admissions to confirm the pre-read. This is done to inform the coach of the student athletes chances and ...

    talk.collegeconfidential.com/t/how-much-does-being-a-recruited-athlete-help-at...

I have heard all the things about how recruited athletes get preferential treatment, but is it really true? For example, could a kid with a 3.6 UW gpa, who originally stood no chance, at an Ivy League or t20 school have a strong chance at the school with recruitment status? Say for example a kid was recruited by a lacrosse coach at Amherst College and they had a 3.5 and a 1500 SAT, decent ecs ...

  8. Haverford vs. Vassar vs. Skidmore [recruited athlete, CS major]

I guess the last thing I would add is just that in the last NCES College Navigator cohort, Haverford graduated 31 primary majors in CS out of 315 (9.8%), Vassar also had 31 but out of 624 (5.0%), and Skidmore had 21 out of 617 (3.4%).

  9. Is it worth going to an Ivy League as a D1 student athlee

    talk.collegeconfidential.com/t/is-it-worth-going-to-an-ivy-league-as-a-d1...

Your student athlete life is going to be very different at an Ivy than at Notre Dame or Duke or Stanford. The facilities are just going to be different, the level of competition different (in most sports; there are a few where the Ivies are competitive like lacrosse, crew, fencing, hockey so compete against the best in the country), the travel conditions more luxurious.

    sherpa March 16, 2009, 1:12am 2.
If you are asking if Ivy League recruited athletes sometimes utilize their athletic “hook” to get into an Ivy League school, and subsequently drop their sport, the answer is yes. I consider it unethical to commit to a coach in order to get their admission support and then not follow through on the ...

    talk.collegeconfidential.com/t/do-athletes-ever-transfer/672032

How common is it for D-1 athletes to change schools? Is is unethical for a coach to recruit a player for transfer. I know the letter of intent and the formal commitment of the scholarship money is year to year, but is it treated as a 4 year commitment? My daughter is very happy with her choice, but we have a close friend who did not do as well as she should have and I was wondering if she ...
