To use the old Map Quest site for driving directions visit classic.mapquest.com/directions. Once you are at the site enter your locations where it says "Address or Intersection", then fill in the other fields which are city, state, and zip code.
I don't know if the site is temporarily down or if they have removed it all together. However, the classic site is still there, so if you prefer the old version you can head over to classic.mapquest.com and get directions directly from there using the old interface.
