  2. Approach lighting - Pilots of America

FWIW, the approach plate should indicate which lighting system is in use and also offer a graphical depiction (for us who cannot remember those pesky acronyms anyway). jordane93 Touchdown!

  3. LPV Approaches/ Approach Lights? - Pilots of America

    www.pilotsofamerica.com/community/threads/lpv-approaches-approach-lights.64252

No -- that requires an approach light system. Wally or John can probably quote chapter and verse from TERPS on that. Not true. You can get 200 DH with an LPV without approach lights. The visibility requirements will be 3/4, the same as if there was an approach light system but it was inoperative.

  4. DA and DH confusion on GPS and ILS approach chart.

Aug 18, 2016. #2. John777 said: I reviewed the above definitions from IPH chapter 2 and I still have stuffs to figure out. DA, DH is mostly the same thing but DA is expressed in MSL where DH is in AGL. When I looked at both GPS and ILS chart (Jepp), every decision altitude was expressed as DA (H), DH expressed in parenthesis.

A localizer performance with vertical guidance (LPV) approach with a decision altitude (DA) greater than 300 feet height above terrain (HAT) may be used as a nonprecision approach; however, due to the precision of its glidepath and localizer-like lateral navigation characteristics, an LPV can be used to demonstrate precision approach proficiency (AOA VI TASK B ) if the DA is equal to or less ...

  6. What airports have FAROS lighting? - Pilots of America

See AIM Chapter 2, Section 1. Stand Alone Final Approach Runway Occupancy Signal (FAROS) The standalone FAROS system is a fully automated system that provides runway occupancy status to pilots on final approach to indicate if it may be unsafe to land. When an aircraft or vehicle is detected on the runway, the Precision Approach Path Indicator ...

The only place you'll see it is on the static instruments (often delayed like the VSI) and seeing the lights go to the "low" indication if looking outside. Sometimes the angle changes of the runway environment are not as easy to spot happening at first, and can be as "delayed" as the VSI because of visual illusions.

  8. *L Lighting Limitations Exist. - Pilots of America

    www.pilotsofamerica.com/community/threads/l-lighting-limitations-exist.135330

With FAA approved systems, various combinations of medium intensity approach lights, runway lights, taxiway lights, VASI and/or REIL may be activated by radio control. 99% of the time a check of the AF/D will provide the frequency to turn on the lights using the standard 7-5-3 mic clicks. Sometimes the CTAF is not the freq to turn on the lighting.

  9. Class A airspace / "FL 600"? - Pilots of America

    www.pilotsofamerica.com/community/threads/class-a-airspace-fl-600.52899

Flight level is any altitude above the transition altitude. Basically FL600 means a pressure altitude of 60,000 feet. Above FL180/18000' you change your altimeter to 29.92". This is because the "Transition Altitude" in North Amercia is 18,000' MSL. Flight level is divided into 100' increments but always end in a 0 or 5.

Jan 30, 2018. #1. The avionics shop can't fly me back today but the plane is ready to go, so I was thinking of taking a short fuel run down to 2B3, but this NOTAM caught my eye: !BGR 01/326 2B3 RWY 18/36 REDL OUT OF SERVICE 1801142001-1805312359. I checked the P/CG for REDL but couldn't find any entry under the Rs that matched.

  11. Do I have the required equipment for LPV? | Pilots of America

    www.pilotsofamerica.com/community/threads/do-i-have-the-required-equipment-for...

There are antennas that will preclude you from using them for WAAS (i.e., LPV approach). You are right that there are specific placement requirements for the external CDI for IFR use (even for using the VOR/LOC/GS part) and annunciator if the on-screen one is too far from the center of view.
