San José Mineta International Airport(IATA: SJC, ICAO: KSJC, FAALID: SJC), officially Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport,[5]is a city-owned public airport in San Jose, California. Located 3 mi (4.8 km) northwest of Downtown San Jose, the airport serves both the city and the Santa Clara Valleyregion of the greater Bay Area.
The road access to the airport is on an exit at Route 1, and near the exit to Alajuela. There is a parking area with surcharge, plus a bus stop with plenty of services to San Jose downtown (with no exact schedule but with 24-hour bus service and approximately one service every 10 minutes during working hours).
Reid–Hillview is a general aviation airport; there is no scheduled airline service. As with most general aviation airports air charter operations are available. The airport has a control tower that operates 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time. The FAA classifies Reid–Hillview as a reliever airport for San Jose International Airport.
In 2016, the airport handled 7,376,160 passengers, and 6,892,104 in 2017. In August 2019, a new highway opened, which cut the traveling time from the airport to Medellín from 45 minutes to just 20 minutes. The route includes a tunnel called "Tunel de Oriente". The total cost of the project was 1.1 billion pesos. [10]
The Southeast Metro Manila Expressway (SEMME), also known as Skyway Stage 4, is a 32.664-kilometer (20.296 mi) under-construction expressway from Skyway Stage 2 near Arca South in Taguig to Batasan Road (near Batasang Pambansa Complex) in Quezon City. The expressway is planned to extend to Bulacan.
The airport was built by the United States Armyduring World War II, known as Santa Maria Army Air Field.[3] Its primary mission was to provide training for B-25bomber pilots, however flight training was abandoned by December 1942. The field fell into a state of disuse until the arrival of the Lockheed P-38twin engine fighter in September 1943.
