If Yahoo Mail detects an unsupported browser or screen resolution, JavaScript problems, or slow bandwidth, you’ll automatically be switched to Basic Mail. To switch to Yahoo Basic Mail, log in to your Yahoo Mail account in a browser and hover your mouse over the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the browser window.
If you’ve mistakenly upgraded to the new version and have no clue on how to get the old version back (Yahoo did a great job hiding it), I’ve got a quick and dirty solution for you.
Step 1: Sign into your Yahoo Mail account at https://mail.yahoo.com. Step 2: Hover over the gear icon at the top-right of the window, then click the Settings option. Step 3: Scroll to the bottom of this menu and click the box to the left of Basic in the Mail version section.
After reducing your screen resolution, login to your Yahoo Mail account and you’ll see a message like the one in the image below. Just click on Return to a previous version of Yahoo! Mail and you’ll be taken back to the old Yahoo Mail.
