Spookiepower, I spoke too soon. After spending the night installing, uninstalling, restarting, trying different versions, etc, etc, I can without doubt state that HIKvision's iVMS software is a clusterf@ck!
It's certainly more powerful than most need, but you can get them with 16gb of RAM for under $300 if you are patient. I have about 10 cameras running BI with an i7-6700 and the CPU hardly breaks 15% usage normally. If I RDP into it and open the full BI app (vs running as a service) the CPU jumps up to about 20%.
I have DS-2D2132F-IS camera that I had updated to V5.3.0. It was Multilingual before and ended up in Chinese....Ok I did a re-install to V5.2.5 141201 and also the Arden procedure to have a selection box at the star-up to have English. What remains is that the camera is still Chinese for iVMS-4200. This is causing also failures with DNS.
