Echoes was the first Pink Floyd track I ever heard... It was 1975 and I was 8 years old. Music lessons at school mostly consisted of us kids picking up instruments and bashing our way through tunes. To call it a cacophony would be being generous. One day, our music teacher was off sick so we had a supply teacher instead.
Pink Floyd - Echoes. The segment from 16:00 to 19:13 is my absolute favorite. This is what I want to hear on my death bed, when I close my eyes for the last time. People who like like this, will probably also love this segment from Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Or they won't.

Yes. Echoes is probably the best Pink Floyd vinyl side, I’ll give you this much! Side C from The Wall though.. I can’t decide between side 3 and side 4 of the wall. Side 3 is objectively great, but side 4 is like an awesome, deep scary trip that feels like a weird scary part of an adventure. It’s so much fun.
Just Listened to Echoes for the first time. Wow. And to think that I had avoided it for this long all because it was a long song. Stupid me. Yes it was. I like to watch the Pompeii video with the sound off, and play The Wizard of Oz on high volume in the next room. They sync up nicely. Meddle should be as well known as Dark Side. Seriously. Meddle is my favorite Floyd album now. One of these days, pillow of winds, FEARLESS, san tropez, seamus, echoes.

Pink Floyd fan here, I'm going to tender my vote for Atom Heart Mother. You get the timeless epic synonymous title track, and then buried gems like If and Summer 68, AND Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast. Excellent band.
I'll try and find it, but there's an edition of the BBC's Record Producer's Radio Show that covers Pink Floyd, and mentions Echoes as a work in progress. It features the early lyrics, with the lyrics recorded through a Leslie speaker, just like the grand piano.
