History. The Smoky Hills Public Television Corporation was founded in 1978, with the intent to start a non-commercial educational television station in western Kansas. This region is part of the Wichita–Hutchinson Plus market, an unusually large market that covers over 70 counties stretching from the Flint Hills to the Colorado border–almost three-fourths of the state.
