Normal neodymium magnets will lose their magnetic properties if heated above 175°F (80° C). The strong magnetic fields of neodymium magnets can damage items such as televisions, computer monitors, credit cards, bank cards, computers, diskettes and other data carriers, video tapes, mechanical watches, hearing aids, loud speakers and VCRs.

6 0 0. I use the epoxy coated 1" x 1/4" neodymium magnets for the Outside magnets on my frag racks. I don't think I would trust them for very long on the inside. I did buy a couple 1" x 1" 1/4" square rubber coated neodymium magnets and they do seem like they have much more coating on them, than the epoxy coated ones.

Zwogle said: i used neodymium magnets and dipped them in plasti dip. I read in another forum that it was safe/inert. Yeah defs wouldn't use plasti dip to seal magnets. It will seal them and it is reef safe (as far as I am aware). But it wont keep them sealed. You can seal magnets by coating in epoxy (and I mean really coating them).

Neodymium magnets can not be used (unless plastic coated. These are best magnets you can buy that are reef safe, you can find them at K&J magnetics). Even the epoxy coated ones will eventually leach. Ceramic magnets are safe but not 100%, basically use at your own risk but proven to work.

Rare earth or neodymium magnets will kill every coral and invert in your tank pretty quickly. Even if these are epoxy coated, if the coating cracks that tiny hole can sometimes leach fast enough to kill coral. The only safe magnets are ceramic or very well coated stronger magnets. What about samarium cobalt magnets.

Location. Olympia, WA. Rating - 100%. 6 0 0. When I made frag racks, I usually got the cheapest 1" x 3/8" neodymium magnets for the inside and the epoxy coated 1" x 1/4" neodymium magnets for the outside, for 1/2" glass. The inside magnets do have to be totally coated with something that is saltwater safe. BighohoReef.
