The rules of pronunciation given in the Tolkāppiyam, a text on the grammar of old Tamil, says that the āytam in old Tamil patterned with semivowels and it occurred after a short vowel and before a stop; it either lengthened the previous vowel, geminated the stop or was lost if the following segment is phonetically voiced in the environment.
e. The Tamil script ( தமிழ் அரிச்சுவடி Tamiḻ ariccuvaṭi [tamiɻ ˈaɾitːɕuʋaɽi]) is an abugida script that is used by Tamils and Tamil speakers in India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and elsewhere to write the Tamil language. [5] It is one of the official scripts of the Indian Republic.
The origin of this word cannot be conclusively attributed to Malayalam or Tamil. Congee, porridge, water with rice; uncertain origin, possibly from Tamil kanji (கஞ்சி), [7] Telugu or Kannada gañji, or Malayalam kaññi (കഞ്ഞി). Traditional Tamil grammar consists of five parts, namely eḻuttu, sol, poruḷ, yāppu, and aṇi. Of these, the last two are mostly applicable in poetry. [1] The following table gives additional information about these parts. Eḻuttu (writing) defines and describes the letters of the Tamil alphabet and their classification.
Not all words in Tamil necessarily have a different colloquial, low, standard and high equivalents. -n, -l, -r. Tamil nouns can end in ன் (n), ள் (ḷ) or ர் (r). ன் (n) and ள் (ḷ) are used to people of lesser social order to denote male and female respectively.
Vowel letters are used rather than diacritics, and they occur after consonants in their spoken order. The last two letters, ⠰ ṉ and ⠷ ḻ, are shared with Malayalam, but otherwise ⠰ ṉ is used for the anusvara (nasalization) in other Bharati alphabets, while ⠷ ḻ is also used in Urdu Braille but for the unrelated letter ʻayn .
