5 March – A Cessna 172 on a training flight crashes into the Nairobi National Park after figuring in a mid-air collision with a Dash 8 passenger aircraft operated by Safarilink Aviation, killing all two people aboard the Cessna.
The passenger plane from local airline Safarilink, bound for the coastal resort town of Diani, had just taken off when it "experienced a loud bang", Safarilink said in a statement.
A Dash 8-300 operating as Safarilink Aviation Flight 53 from Wilson Airport, Nairobi to Diani near Mombasa was involved in a mid-air collision with a Cessna 172 operated by a local flying school. The Dash returned to Wilson and landed safely with no injuries among the 39 passengers and five crew.
