Normal swap is for a Genie and Mini Genie Client. This is 5 tuners between them (as opposed to total of 4) with 1TB worth of recording space. Traditional upgrade is still Genie and Client, but with new receiver services of $10 HD and $3 Whole Home DVR. Recordings are viewable from each TV since the Mini is a Client (slave) of the Genie.

In any case, you need to call DIRECTV (number in my greeting below) and ask an agent to schedule an upgrade for you. Be SPECIFIC about what you are upgrading, why, and what new equipment you would like. That way, the work order isn’t messed up.
Upgrade the non-DVR H24 to a Genie. This gets you a 5 tuner HDDVR with 1TB recording space. If you don't already have it, you get Whole Home DVR ($3) which allows each box to watch the recordings on the others. As normal an upgrade comes with a 24 month service agreement.

DTV will most likely not take back the H23, the C41W or C61W are the only wireless minis made and you will have to buy a WVB and it will have to be tech installed for $99.00 all minis are also $99.00 unless you have a free upgrade. That was absolutely a scam. DirecTV doesn't call you about upgrading equipment or with discounts, and certainly doesn't require an up-front payment to get a discount. There is an influx of these type of scams right now. And they are not just because of the pandemic, but DirecTV is in the process of a complete shutdown of their MPEG-2 feeds so ...
Said he was sending me a new receiver due to upgrades in my area. He had a lot of information about my account with DirecTV. He only asked that I give him the receiver ID from my present setup, which I did. Than he mentioned there would be a $399 charge, which would be deducted from my monthly bill at the rate of $35 per month.
