Streets was developed by Microsoft. Autoroute was originally developed in Europe and marketed as Route 66 in US. Microsoft bought out Route 66 and changed the name but didn't make much change in how the program operated. They just put a thin Microsoft wrapper on it and update and expand the map files to cover more of eastern Europe.
