ITVX (formerly ITV Hub and ITV Player) is a British ad-supported video-on-demand streaming service operated by ITV. The service offers original content from the broadcaster, as well as some exclusive and licensed programming. [1] ITV Hub had at least 30 million registered users.
On 30 April 2008, the iPlayer service was fed directly to Virgin Media's 3.4m digital cable TV customers as part of the company's video-on-demand service. Pressing the 'red button' while watching a BBC channel on TV will bring up the iPlayer service without the user having to access the web.
A television licence is also required to receive video on demand programme services provided by the BBC via its iPlayer service. Since 1 April 2024, the annual cost has been Ā£169.50 for a colour licence and Ā£57.00 for a black and white licence. Income from the licence is primarily used to fund the television, radio and online services of the BBC.
