Hi all, I am trying to get a bit of information on the date of a Model 41 I have owned since the 1980s. I had always assumed it was from the 1960s but decided to do a little research and am thinking it is probably a 57. The serial number is 3228 which is stamped above the model number on the side of the frame.

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! I believe the serial is S299xxx. It is better to take the serial from the bottom of the butt frame since that is the official serial. However, some S&W revolvers have the serial in the yoke cut, like yours. Your gun was made in 1967. We can't estimate a value unless we see the entire gun with sharply ...

For a modest fee, he will look up your serial number and provide you the shipping date, how it left the factory and to where it was shipped. Once in a while, he can even tell you to whom it was shipped. S&W did not ship in numerical sequence. They grabbed whatever revolver or revolvers satisfied the order and shipped them.

During WWII, the rough polishing removed the rebound slide stud which is proud of the frame but didn't affect the hammer stud which is recessed. After WWII, these studs are pressed ...

Also, frames shared serial number blocks among models. In other words there would have been K22's, K32's and K38's all sharing the same serial number range. It is even possible to have consecutive serial number guns that are different models as Smith didnt do things in serial number order.

Oh, welcome to the forum. It's a great place with very knowledgable participants. firebug085, The serial number range that contains your model 60 is 1974 to 1977: R100000 to R190000. I can extrapolate to guess that yours was late 1974 to early 1975, but that's a WAG. Others may have better information.

Serial Numbers were recorded at the time the order was sent out. We know that some guns sat in the safe for a considerable period of time before being shipped to a customer. The estimates found in the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson are as close as possible with the information that we have. The Standard Catalog of S&W 4th edition is at the ...

Location: Richardson, TX. Posts: 7,523. The number you listed for the 10-5 is the assembly number, which is arbitrary and basically meaningless. The serial number of a Model 10 is found on the bottom of the grip frame. It will be a 6-digit number preceded by a "C" or a "D". The Model 19 is 1976 production.
